Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic Wrap-Up: Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev join 30th edition

On the lush grounds of the historic Hurlingham Club, the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic concluded its 30th edition of the event in grand fashion.

Holger Rune of Denmark returned to Centre Court at the Hurlingham Club and walked away with two wins. He first took on Karen Khachanov, who last played the event in 2018. The former world number four made quick work of Khachanov, defeating him 6-2, 6-4. The following day, Rune took on Brit Cameron Norrie and narrowly beat him in the third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

Friday’s marquee match was between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. This was Djokovic’s third consecutive year playing the event while Medvedev was making his GATC debut. Djokovic was coming off the back of knee surgery last month after suffering a torn meniscus from Roland Garros. There were many questions on how his grass season would turn out, but after a 6-3, 6-4 win over Medvedev, he would go on to reach the finals of Wimbledon.

After his win, Djokovic said, “I was pain free and it was a great test yesterday as well, playing against the best players in the World… I really wanted to come out and test my knee and see how I feel, move around you know, try to stay low. The ball bounces very low on grass, especially here and the test was very successful so I’m obviously really glad.”

There were many new faces in the 2024 edition. Argentinians Francisco Cerundolo and Tomás Etcheverry and Italians Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Arnaldi made their first appearances at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic. Other names included João Fonseca of Brazil, Brandon Nakashima of the United States, Zhizhen Zhang of China, and Arthur Cazaux of France.

The return of the Junior Invitational was met with great success by the Jones siblings. Emerson and Hayden Jones of Australia both won their respective divisions. Emerson Jones went on to reach the finals of Wimbledon Girl’s Singles.

The event’s hospitality elevated its overall experience with the debut of The Orangery, a unique outdoor space that overlooked the pristine bowling lawns of the Hurlingham Club. Guests were invited to an exclusive dining experience Tuesday to Friday of the event.

In addition to the ATP players, tennis legends who took to the court included crowd favourite Mansour Bahrami, Mark Philippoussis, Marcos Baghdatis, Thomas Enqvist and Nicolás Almagro. On the final day, Bahrami was honoured on-court with a special presentation for his 30th consecutive time playing the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic.
